Recommendations of Much Undone

  • Cheryl Bear: Much Undone

Much Ado About Nothing comes alive as we put gender roles and marriage on the stand, getting to the truth! Well done.

  • Charlotte Stowe: Much Undone

There is much ado about "Much Undone." This play beautifully combines the high theatricality and storytelling traditions of Shakespeare and his world with today's celebration of diversity and identity. This play is absolutely perfect for the Shakespeare die-hards AND perfect for those who are apprehensive or weary of the Bard. I so hope to be able to see this play produced and thriving on a stage in the near future!

This play is delightful! It is hilarious and theatrical while speaking incisive truths about marriage and gender roles. An incredible answer to MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING that everyone can (and should!) appreciate and think about.

  • Kevin Sparrow: Much Undone

What a joyful read! I was drawn into the contemporary positioning of the play with accents of elevated language, song, and meta-theatrical moments that tie it back to its Much Ado influence. The farcical qualities here are presented in a way that centers people of diverse gender identities as part of the fun rather than the butt of jokes, and as a whole, it allows space for a range of casting possibilities and interpretations from actors. I loved reading it, and it would be even lovelier to see it in person.

  • American Shakespeare Center: Much Undone

Much Undone was on the final shortlist for Shakespeare’s New Contemporaries Cycle 3 at the American Shakespeare Center. It rose through to the top of an anonymous, multi-tiered selection process, and it is our pleasure to recommend this play. A joyful, contemporary sequel to Shakespeare’s Much Ado, this comic romp offers bold characters, a fast pace, and raunchy humor. Valdes skillfully creates a theatrical experience that both honors and interrogates the play that was its inspiration.
