All of Emma Goldman-Sherman’s skills as a playwright are in display here: great dialogue; her feel for humor, especially dark humor; her fearless willingness to be honest and tackle gut wrenching subject matter; her theatricality; and her ability to skillfully play with structure and form. I watched the Equity Library of New York stream and was laughing out loud, then cringing, and, ultimately, smiling in wonder. It was one of those experiences that left me thinking, “I wish I’d written that play.”

Affirming, healing, a dream instead of what could have been and probably was a nightmare. Very smart choice, Emma, to have the actors engage directly with the audience.

Funny, smart, wise, witty and clever! With huge heart and terrific roles for actors. I'd LOVE to see this staged!

A beautiful play about healing and the family wounds we long to mend, forging love. Well done!

So much to love in this brief, but emotionally-packed play. Imperfect relationships have a lasting effect on us, as we try to understand. This play comes from the heart.

Wish that all parents could be this real. Adding humor made the medicine go down. And medicine is made to improve the health - of families, of parents, of human beings. Thanks for being brave enough to write this strikingly original script.

What an incredibly creative and touching script! I love the way the playwright weaves her compelling personal story into this comedic back and forth between characters. So fun!

Love the twists and turns of this piece. Never sure what is what or who is who and that is delicious as the journey is always interesting. It's a tight, enjoyable, thought provoking yet so simple to produce play.

I love this play so much it hurts. In a very dreamlike, at times almost nightmarish way, Goldman-Sherman gets right to the heart of the good, the bad, and the ugly of the parent/child relationship, and without being preachy or judgmental, rips at the unresolved conflicts that haunt us throughout our lives. And it’s not without humor, either. DREAM TALK is an unsettling, but cathartically beautiful work.

  • Matthew Weaver: DREAM TALK

Goldman-Sherman bares her soul as only she can. She unveils her own history, resulting in an experience as universal as it is profound.
Yes, this is the conversation we all long for with our own parents. But, as in life, reality intrudes and blurs the lines. Goldman-Sherman holds up seemingly the prototypical ideal and examines it, examines her/our longing for it.
DREAM TALK is as hilarious as it is heartbreaking, with the playwright's signature wit and candor.
May it bring some semblance of peace to all who come across it, from creator to audience fortunate enough to bear witness.
