Recommendations of Austin's Home

  • Emma Durbin: Austin's Home

We produced a reading of Jesse's brilliant and moving play, Austin's Home, at The Understudy in Chicago earlier this year! Jesse is a clever, thoughtful, and gifted playwright and was wonderful to work with. Beyond that, this play is moving, and timely, and inspired a deep conversation with our audience about gender, family, and grief. This script is production ready and I cannot wait to see where it goes next!

  • Rachael Carnes: Austin's Home

A deeply moving family drama exploring Austin's family of origin, and his parents' inability to roll with change. Robkin artfully develops these rich, multifaceted characters, whose competing wants and needs exchange the dynamic of loss and renewal with tremendous emotional facility. This play should be required viewing in every regional theatre in America. Read this now. Produce this yesterday.

  • Conor McShane: Austin's Home

A carefully observed coming out story that eschews melodrama for something much more subtly and believably rendered, with four sympathetic, complex characters. The play beautifully reminds us that acceptance might not be easy, but with love it's always possible.

  • Playwrights Foundation: Austin's Home

Playwrights Foundation enthusiastically recommends this play, AUSTIN'S HOME, as a Semi-Finalist for the Bay Area Playwrights Festival 2020. We were moved by the quality of the writing and the relevant and compelling themes that spoke to the mission of our festival. It excelled in a competitive process of 735 plays submitted this year and rose to the top after a six month long process discussing its merits with both national and local Bay Area readers, and we hope it moves swiftly towards production.
