I had the pleasure of seeing this play during the 2020 BAPF. Before hand, I felt like I had only a cursory understanding of the conflict of Hong Kong. Not only did FINAL BOARDING CALL educate me, but it also functioned as a brilliant piece of theatre- making me laugh, cry, and contemplate my own rights and privileges. I would absolutely love to see a full production of this play.

I saw this at the BAPF and was blown away. Not only does Stefani deftly handle a variety of relationships with heart and humor, but the political explosion that is happening around them is revealed through these interactions in a way that is explanatory and theatrical. I was struck by how someone's politics completely shifted based on the perspective of who they were talking to. Someone who seems more radical in one conversation is suddenly conservative when talking to someone who is even more extreme. This dichotomy was apparent over and over and really helped to explore the complexities.

A brilliant play! I had the pleasure of being in a writers group with Stefani while she was developing this play -- while the events it depicts were unfolding! Stefani has a great instinct for how to distill complex political ideas into theatrically vital situations. Produce this play!

What a privilege to see the digital reading of this for the BAPF! This is a masterpiece that is epic in scope but that also never loses sight of its distinct, complex characters. "Final Boarding Call" is both such a universally relevant play in the way it examines social movements and upheaval, protest, and national identity, while also showing us a very specific and nuanced cross-section of the particular movement in Hong Kong it centers around. The dialogue is lyrical, naturalistic, poignant, hilarious, and heartbreaking--a delicate balancing act. See the second reading of this next weekend...

Final Boarding Call is incredible. I was lucky enough to see this play as part of the 2020 Bay Area Playwrights Festival and I was swept up by the enormity of this intimate play. I hope that everyone has a chance to see it staged one day soon. It's urgent and important and deeply deeply human. And while it's historic and beautifully political, it's also, at its heart, a play about siblings, a play about best friends, a play about romantic relationships -- long and short term. It's a play everyone needs in their life. Because wow.

Like many of Stefani's plays, this one is hugely political and important and so very deeply human. It's a play for right now. I hope theaters take note and support this timely play.
