  • Mark Loewenstern: EVERYDAY AVIATION: A Play for Videoconference

I love that this play conjures magic from the latest technology, and I love that it is, all at once, a coronavirus play, a play set in different times in both the past and the future, and finally an evergreen story of a person at his wit's end finding some comfort and peace. Highly relatable, trippy, fresh and charming.

Hard-hitting in its elegance, Carnes delivers a play that both comforts us in these stressful times, while also giving much to think about. This play really drew me in with its use of time and the flow of thoughts and ideas. A true work of force and momentum.

This is such a beautiful piece that effortlessly flows through time shifts and family dynamics. It amplifies so clearly the current state we are living in and comparatively shows that we humans have been here before, dealing with the difficult hand life can deal us, and finding a way through adversity with love and support. It is such a wonderfully theatrical piece written specifically for a virtual platform. Easy to produce, and with the right actors, this 10-minute piece will take the audience on quite a journey! Loved it!

Carnes’s grace-filled play reminds that each of us is a through-line between past and future and that hope exists not only within ourselves. Funny, provoking, affecting — a perfect little play for our times.

I saw a video production of this play by Theatre Three. It knocks you over the head with its simplicity and complexity. Living in the time of the pandemic. We all need to remember Grandpa's line: "I lived in a foxhole for a month...is it worse than that?" We can survive.

A great piece about the power of digital connection for a family in the time of a crisis and the way we try to help each other even from afar. Lovely!
