What a fantastic illustration of video game escapism, domestic abuse, and sacrifice! I never thought I would care what happens to a Deku Shrub! It's encouraging to see a positive portrayal of the power of video games to bring light and heroes to a dark world.

Kelly's writing draws you in from the very beginning, Chuck's plight for the unobtainable margarita, along with the physical comedy of "player" control is funny and memorable, and makes the discovery of the violence beyond the screen even more heartbreaking. Even though Chuck knows what will happen if he doesn't follow the code, he perseveres and brings hope to a dark place. I'd would love to see this play produced.

What a charming, sweet, and heartbreaking one-act. Kelly takes well loved video game characters and uses them to comment on domestic violence. This bittersweet story is so full of love and hope. A must read!
