  • Playwrights Foundation: Here Comes The Night

The community of National Committee readers for the 46th Bay Area Playwrights Festival advanced HERE COMES THE NIGHT as a Semi-Finalist at Playwrights Foundation. We were engaged by the precarious situation and the tensions that arose in this relevant play firmly rooted in LA culture and a strong theatrical portrait of place. We appreciated the central question of when female friends diverge in their life paths, can they be there for each other when it counts? We hope this play is considered for further development and investigation, and finds dedicated collaborators in this play’s journey...

  • Sarah Tuft: Here Comes The Night

A powerful two-hander, with great roles for women from two generations, HERE COMES THE NIGHT brings a personal perspective to a highly politicized topic. While exposing how spirituality can be reduced to a brand, the play also offers true soulfulness with its testament to female friendship and how conflict leads to love when mediated through compassion… Theaters take note and produce this play!!!

  • Aly Kantor: Here Comes The Night

The strength in this dynamic, vivid two-hander comes from the characters - two women (narrowly) from different generations, exploring the difference between a "real" friendship and... well, what's the alternative, really? They are brought together in a richly described setting that is as much a character as any personality on stage, under circumstances that are compelling, polarizing, and deeply human. It makes you contemplate what "real" friendship is right now, in the age of social media and "personas." Both characters have such specific points of view, informed by deep foreign-but-familiar...

  • Bernardo Cubría: Here Comes The Night

A wonderful two hander that is much more a story about friendship than it is an "issue play."It tackles friendship in the age of social media with humor and heart. I love this play and it has one of the most beautiful quiet scenes in theatre. Think this play should be done all over the country.

  • Jennifer Maisel: Here Comes The Night

A gorgeous two-hander that explores the depth of walking a friend through a life changing choice with nuance and humor and love. Grissom really knows how to take something that's been in the headlines and make it a personal gut-wrenching true story. I can't wait to see this one produced.

  • Jami Brandli: Here Comes The Night

Here Comes the Night is a stunning two-hander play about friendship, womanhood and "life on social media versus real life." The two female leads are rich and complex, and the subject matter is beyond complicated--in all the right ways. What's most impressive to me is how Grissom handles the dramatic tension between these two old friends who have become somewhat estranged, as the play unfolds in a way that is absolutely riveting. It's tight, funny, heartbreaking, thought-provoking, and ultimately satisfying. I can't wait to see this compelling and important play get produced...which soon be...

  • Julianne Jigour: Here Comes The Night

A beautiful play that explores the complexity of friendship, the ache of growing apart from those we love, and the beauty of reconnection, as imperfect as it may be, while at the same time delving into the complex emotions felt by women as they exercise their reproductive rights and evaluate their relationship to the idea of motherhood. Great dialogue and exciting design opportunities!

  • Lolly Ward: Here Comes The Night

This exploration of an old friendship is both joyful and heartrending -- who were we then and what are we to each other now? I especially appreciated the deep look at "shallowness" and how Kenner Grissom upends our expectations. Perhaps the influencer does have something powerful to share... I can't wait to see this beautiful vision of an LA canyon on stage.

A compelling two hander! These well crafted female characters take the audience for one hell of a ride during the night of an abortion. This is a play of several complexities. Presenting us with questions of illusion vs. reality. Who are the friends we trust and why? What relationships can be salvaged? And what do we hold on to during the time of loss. A gem of a play!
