Recommendations of All Together Again

  • Kim Loe: All Together Again

I went into this having not read the previous play (All Together, Part 1), but All Together Again stands well on its own as a moving family drama. The Henderson/Connolly family members feel incredibly authentic and easy to connect with. Philip has done an excellent job of balancing a gentle dissection of grief with some explosive moments, peppered with warm humour.

    "Tempes does fugit"
What I love about a Philip Middleton Williams play is the groundedness of it all. Williams is a skilled writer who never needs to rely on a cheap gimmick or meta-theatrical device, he writes real human beings in real life situations and the reader or audience member is hooked to see what happens to them from page one to the end. This play confronts marital issues, alcoholism, and generational trauma with Williams' skilled ear for dialogue and keen eye for kitchen-sink drama.

  • Mike Byham: All Together Again

Genuine characters with deeply moving relationships drive the narrative in this family drama/comedy. Philip Middleton Williams does a wonderful job of avoiding cliches while maturely dealing with themes of unrealized expectations and alcoholism in ALL TOGETHER AGAIN. These are people that you want to know, root for and embrace as your own. This play is meant to be produced and audiences will enjoy this one over and over. Very well done.

  • Jonny Bolduc: All Together Again

I feel very immersed in these fully fleshed, beautifully realized, and complex characters. I want to go back and read the first in this series. The dialogue is crisp and sharp, heartfelt, and funny and it feels a little bit like we are cannonballing into these characters. If I care about the characters reading, audiences will as well. This is a win of a domestic dramedy and cements this playwright as one I will be reading heavily. Amazing work.

  • Tom Erb: All Together Again

In "All Together Again," Philip Middleton Williams skillfully weaves an intimate yet expansive narrative in this play. Williams delves deep into the characters' internal worlds by setting it within a familiar yet emotionally charged suburban Miami home. His vision is clear: to explore the intricate web of family relationships and the passage of time. Through sharp dialogue and well-defined characters, he invites the audience into a world where personal histories intersect with present realities, revealing the enduring bonds that hold families together. Williams' adept use of humor adds depth...

  • Douglas Gearhart: All Together Again

As a moving portrait of a family across generations, All Together Again, reflects on the accidental events that brought us together, as well as the dark impulses and natural forces that can pull us apart, and cause us to slip away from each other. So what is to be done? I think this is the central question of this wonderful play: What do we owe to those we love? Love, regret, duty, forgiveness and a whole lot more are wrestled with here. As craft, Philip Williams juggles characters like a magician. And they all have something special to say.

  • Kim E. Ruyle: All Together Again

Having finished the first installment in this series this morning, I immediately dived into the ten-year reunion, of sorts. Wow! All Together Again does more than tug at the heartstrings – it grabs them and yanks. Hard. The depiction of alcoholism is all too real and painfully portrayed. Again, I found myself rooting for the characters and welcomed the addition of Nancy to the family. I will definitely read the subsequent chapters… after giving the old heartstrings a chance to rebound. Highly recommended!

Yay! One of my favorite quirky families is back and better than ever! Phillip Middleton Williams keeps all his characters as fresh as they were before--just as open and honest and vulnerable and delightfully dysfunctional. Fox is still one of my favorite characters and Nancy is a welcome addition. I'm looking forward to reading part three!

I honestly don't know how he does it or how he makes it seem so easy, but Williams has done it again: Rendering realistic characters in relatable situations with exceptional wit and insight. These characters are old friends by now thanks to the previous work, and revisiting them and seeing where they've come is a delight. There is a scene in this play between two characters recounting their initial attraction that I found very true and poignant. The play also treats addiction and the hard path to recovery with impressive sensitivity and an admirable avoidance of cliches. Another gem!

  • Doug DeVita: All Together Again

One of the things I love most about Williams’ work is his distinctive voice; his explorations of the WASP world of the 21st century may bear the subtle influences of Lanford Wilson and A.R. Gurney, but the voice and the work are distinctly his own: warmer, less brittle, but just as potent.

Reading "All Together Again," a sequel to his earlier "All Together Now," was a welcome visit with dear friends. Dear, dysfunctional, frustrating, and beloved friends one sticks with because they are, and always will be, a part of your life. I'm looking forward to part three!
