Recommendations of A Rare Bird

I had the pleasure of reading this lovely play, then seeing it in production with The Tank (NYC) as part of the "Weird Plays" project. It is a play full of gentle surprises, gorgeous visuals (both in the language and in the physical transformation we see a character taking on) and beautifully expresses longing and the need for belonging. This play is a heart-breaking delight.

A gorgeous and magical play about transformation and finding your community, and your purpose in life. This play speaks to the loneliness of human existence, the need for connection. Just a lovely play.

This is one of my favorite plays I've read in a long time. Truly transportive. One of the best examples of magical realism I've seen. So unpredictable and well-written. If I ever audition again and need a monologue, I think I'll use one from this play!

This is a gem of a 10-minute play. Present, heartbreaking, loving, and well-paced. It has just enough magic for the realism to work, and just enough realism for the magic to work. It's worth your time to read it, to perform it, to produce it.
