This play is a wonderful homage to classic romantic comedies, but viewed through a distinctly contemporary lens. Adam and Celeste are complicated characters and their shared history creates tension as they work through the pain of their past and explore the promise of a future. I had a fantastic time directing this piece with Yellowhammer Theatre Group and the audience reponse was overwhelmingly positive, appreciating the comedic elements and the emotional truth of the play. Excellent work Michael!

An absolutely fantastic two-hander! Three-dimensional characters with true emotional depth and dialogue that gallops along. Sweet, romantic, heartbreaking, and hopeful. Plus, with easy staging requirements, it would work in both a small blackbox or large proscenium theatre. Do this play!

Celeste, a Broadway star, threatens to nix the production if the play rings false. What follows is a duel between two brilliant artists who connect most truly in bits of playful fiction. Knowing and highly theatrical, Michael McGoldrick’s “Backstage Fairytale” walks a tightrope between humor and heart and never slips. A gem for two comedic actors who also can play in a minor key. A five-star crowd pleaser.
