Recommendations of Coffee House Boos

  • Morey Norkin: Coffee House Boos

A reality TV ghost hunting program shows up unannounced at a coffee shop. Hilarity ensues as the over-the-top British host desperately tries to find signs of “ghosties.” As funny as the host is, my favorite character is the understated, deadpan cameraman. The kind of part I would love to do! Well, with Halloween fast approaching, I hope someone gets the chance. Cheers for COFFEE HOUSE BOOS!

Some people are so obsessed with ghostly afterlife and spooky presences they will make up anything, especially where a TV show can benefit. Luckily Willow stands between this pushy British host and keeping her own job.
There are some brilliant twists along the way too. But for me Willow is the hero, she's smart, quick witted and serves up damn fine coffee!
    Great fun!

Just when you thought reality tv had seen it all...here comes Haunted Hangouts, a below-low budget trash tv program that invades a small-town coffee shop looking for *anything* supernatural. What they find is surprise after surprise, leading to a finale that, up until they arrived, hadn't had the ghost of chance. A raucous short for enthusiastic performers!

Just like a reality show, this play delivers twist after twist after twist. I love that it keeps you guessing until the final punchline. Jacquie Floyd has written something so clever and funny that feels like the plot of a good sit-com, complete with an eccentric cast of characters. I highly recommend this piece and hope to see it onstage. Cheers! *chugs a coffee creamer*

Good investigative journalism requires integrity, solid leads, reliable sources, and a budget.

This play is not about good investigative journalism.

It's about reality television, dissecting the supernatural, staging the supernatural unconvincingly and fixing it in post, questionable online information, deeply wrongheaded assumptions, and coffee. For the characters, it's a mess! For the audience, it's a frothy, creamy, high-octane cappuccino that's just the right amount of bitter and the perfect touch of sweet!

Drink it in and enjoy the rush!

The lengths some people go to for a date. This little comic gem from Jacquie Floyd (I can't believe I missed this one) posits a reality (HA!) show show about haunted hangouts would have been funny enough with the concept of a haunted coffee shop alone. But it adds in some gender identity issues, a TV crew with more interest in ratings than hauntings, a lesbian barista who's a more concerned with keeping her job and outside beef jerky (definitely not allowed) to spice things up. I am never disappointed with a Jacquie Floyd piece. You won't be either.

How many times have any of us wanted to believe our house is haunted or visit a place that is. Coffee House Boos is an unusual love story and shows the world a way to be able to love the spirit of someone as much as the person and Floyd-Priskorn does this with witty dialogue and a fast-paced plot. Introduce yourself to this writer's work! You won't be sorry.

As a former barista, I wish my more interesting days could equate to the hijinks at hand here. Agatha and Malcolm are that perfect duo, constantly ruining everything just enough to make Willow’s attempts to do her job absolutely hilarious to watch. With the addition of a surprisingly heartwarming ending about connection in any form, you’ve got a brilliant little short for any festival.

JACQUELYN FLOYD-PRISKORN’s play is funny, interesting, and wild. A slow day at the Elk Moon Cafe turns into something worthy of a three-ring circus of comedy, ghosts, and a possible romantic relationship. “Coffee House Boos” is a hoot to read, a bit romantic if you can overlook any ghosts and the British host who seeks them for a story, and a laugh out loud zaniness I love to read.
