  • Ryan Kaminski: The Fake

This play resonates on so many levels. The commentary on social media, the awkward place a lot of recent college grads find themselves in as they are in between graduation and the real world, and just how gullible the masses can be. Funny, engaging, and sure to win over any audience. Well done!

  • Lisa Dellagiarino Feriend: The Fake

People are so quick to believe what they see on social media, and in this short, Jason exploits that and heightens it to high stakes (and hilarious) levels. This entertaining two-hander is also a cautionary tale about taking what you see and read on social media with a grain of salt. Very clever!

  • John Mabey: The Fake

Living in a world where the virtual can feel more real than the actual, there's so many stories to tell. And in THE FAKE by Brian Cern, we're treated to high comedy that asks how far is really too far. The dynamic between the roommates provides many laughs as they play at opposite extremes while retaining a grounded sense of their longtime relationship, too. And as both try to provoke the other, stakes are heightened with a physicality that's such a joy to watch unfold.

The demands of social media can sometimes be challenging, yet others embrace it, and others go even further and devote their lives to it. In this hilarious, spot-on commentary on social media, Brian Cern captures both the ridiculousness and potential benefits of going all in on social media. The two roommates, as different from each other as they can be, have different attitudes that will be amplified throughout the play, to a satisfying ending. Damage control may be necessary. A fun romp for the actors who get to play in this playground.

If only it were that easy to look like you're working hard. What am I saying? Of course it's that easy. Brian Cern gives us two characters, one who makes a living, the other who FAKES a living. And of the two, we kinda like the faker. It's amazing how we like to live vicariously through the adventures of others. And honestly, I think if we found out it's all make-believe, we'd probably applaud the imagination of the faker. This is truer than you know. Or would probably believe.

Right from the opening stage directions, the writer creates a detailed image of the world you are being invited into. From there you are swirrled into the world of two wonderfully different but funny characters underlined by the influence of social media. The piece goes along at a lovely piece and by the end it can't fail to have you chuckling. I think it would be a great assett for a festival
