  • Scott Sickles: NIGHT OF A THOUSAND SIPS

In the vivid monologue, Jones presents a woman who is perpetually teetering - and that's on a good day. On this day, maintaining sobriety is like balancing on a seesaw during an earthquake. The sense of place is palpable: you can hear the clamor and smell the second hand smoke and evaporating booze. The character's interior life is just as vivid. More than anything I've read on this subject, this piece will instill you with empathy for the person holding a drink they really shouldn't touch.

  • Donald Loftus: NIGHT OF A THOUSAND SIPS

A compelling and deeply human monologue, Night of a Thousand Sips captures the fragile psychology of addiction with honesty, wit, and remarkable emotional precision. Charles Scott Jones crafts Wendy’s voice with vivid authenticity, allowing humor, temptation, and vulnerability to coexist naturally. The play’s intimate storytelling and sharply observed details build to a quietly triumphant conclusion that feels both earned and profoundly moving.

  • Glenn Alterman: NIGHT OF A THOUSAND SIPS

Every moment of this tension filled monologue keeps you connected to what Wendy, an alcoholic is going through. In Charles Scott Jones Night of A Thousand Sips, the inner torment is visceral. Should Wendy take a sip of that whiskey sour she's holding?! Beautifully written and totally believable. A wonderful monologue!

  • Arianna Rose: NIGHT OF A THOUSAND SIPS

A tension-filled monologue that will have you rooting for Wendy. To sip or not to sip is the question; a potentially deadly decision when you are a recovering alcoholic. Playwright Charles Scott Jones expertly keeps us on the edge of our casino stools as we internally scream at Wendy to put the drink down. The craft in this monologue will make it a joy for anyone to perform or direct.

  • Kelly McBurnette-Andronicos: NIGHT OF A THOUSAND SIPS

You can just feel the magnetic pull of the whiskey sour for our speaker. Nice build of anxiety for the listener/reader as we wait to see how she’s going to get herself out of this precarious situation. Well done.

  • Marj O'Neill-Butler: NIGHT OF A THOUSAND SIPS

Such a struggle...I'm glad that's not me. This monologue had my adrenaline pumping for fear Wendy would give in to her desire and get back to drinking. Thank heavens for her two fisted friend.

  • Marcia Eppich-Harris: NIGHT OF A THOUSAND SIPS

Temptation is one of the hardest things to combat. Charles Scott Jones captures the feeling of fighting it very well in this monologue. It reminds me of being around smokers after having quit 10 years ago, and gosh, it's hard. Within a culture of drinking, like a casino, it's even harder to avoid bad habits, but I like the struggle in this piece -- it's part of the human experience and extremely relatable. Well done!

  • Andrew Martineau: NIGHT OF A THOUSAND SIPS

The description of the whisky sour in this remarkable monologue about combating an addiction in one of the hardest places to fight off the urge for a drink—a casino—reveals how extremely difficult it is for an alcoholic. Just the detail of getting the smell on your fingers if someone bumps into you is incredible storytelling, and Jones has created a character to root for and champion. I would love to see this performed.

  • Rachel Feeny-Williams: NIGHT OF A THOUSAND SIPS

From the moment Wendy started speaking I could get a clear view in my mind of the kind of woman she was. This was easy to do because the voice she'd been given was brilliantly distinctive ("You know"). As she went through her story and the temptation of that free drink became a throne in her side I genuinely had no idea which way her night was going to end. Once I found out though, I have to say I cheered a bit for her. This is a great monologue about strength with sprinklings of comedy, wonderfully done Charles!

  • Jack Levine: NIGHT OF A THOUSAND SIPS

CHARLES SCOTT JONES creates a powerful monologue of one night of the hard fight of a recovering alcoholic to stay sober and refrain from that ‘just one sip’. “Night Of A Thousand Sips” is a gem.
