  • Shaun Leisher: Gin Mummy

Really loved this hilarious riff on the drawing room comedies. Loved the conversation being had about Loved how openly queer this play is and how the characters see heterosexual marriages as a convenient way to get money. This play must be a blast to perform in. I could definitely see this play being really popular with colleges and community theatres.

  • Blyss Cleveland: Gin Mummy

Set in 1894, "Gin Mummy" is a delightful character-driven drawing room comedy with a contemporary sensibility. There are many laugh-out-loud scenes and the story continues to surprise you as it unfolds. I especially love the ending. Would love to see a full production!

  • Red Theater: Gin Mummy

A delightful, wry take on the turn-of-the-century romp. Sensuality is not confined to the straight and young, which means joy abounds in this script. It has all the satisfaction of wish fulfillment without taking the expected paths to get there. So fun!

  • Zach Barr: Gin Mummy

Light, queer, sharp, surprising, and delightfully silly – like an Edwardian parlor drama if the characters were more open about their romantic interests and more self-critical (mostly) about their connections to colonialism. Rare to see such great opportunities for a multigenerational cast of comedic actors, and for stylized production design. Fun!

Funny and witty! I love the nods to contemporary language around patriarchy and colonialism. Like the actors sometimes become self aware. It works so well with the style of comedy in the play.

She's done it again! I'm always so happy when I come across Melissa Leilani Larson's work. I was fortunate enough to see a reading of this hysterical play recently and hope to see it onstage again soon! Oscar Wilde and Noel Coward would be so proud!

Larson’s plays are always a delight. Reading them makes me want to simultaneously dive in as an actor, director, designer, and audience member. The brisk pace, bright comedy, and clever wordplay of this script would make it a welcoming addition to any theater’s programming!

All the wit of Oscar Wilde, but with the openly gay characters he wished he could have written. Absolutely hilarious.

This play is a hilarious poke at historical dramas. It's clever, well written, and is begging to be done at colleges and universities across the country. Read and produce this play, please! And then invite me for opening night!
