Henry Redhawk dreams of joining the prestigious Redwood Course Society of Golf, but the club has become so exclusive it has no members left! Having no members, not only does Henry not have a sponsor, but the Redwood Course will be taken over by golf’s natural enemy, the tennis club. Henry embarks on a hilariously complicated search for a sponsor in country club society where he caddies for a talented woman golfer who becomes bored with the game, gets enlisted to coach her inept boyfriend, and gets mixed up in a retiree’s screwball scheme to fake his death because he thinks death is the only way to play consistent golf. Coming out of this comedic maelstrom Henry finally finds the right person to sponsor his acceptance and save the Redwood Course.

With the right team, this play will do very well on stage. There’s a clear, strong, unified sense of humor driving this script. The wit in the language is a joy to experience, and I imagine the actors will take special delight in all the word play and the opportunities for physical comedy.

So much of American comedic history is steeped with social attitudes which just don’t work for today’s diverse audiences. But Course Society doesn’t punch down; its rich comedic world welcomes everyone to join in the fun.
