This is such a delightful play! When the Son of God suddenly appears in a couple's home for tea, there's no time for second guessing life decisions or pre-planning your questions. Greg Lam writes these characters with an incredible amount of heart and insight, and shows how our biggest fears might also demonstrate our biggest strengths. And in the process, we're entertained by a play that delivers on both the comedy and the faith in ourselves.

The horror of hosting an unexpected guest, compounded when that guest is the Son of God returned to earth, makes the conflict of this short play crackle with energy. Both characters are so grounded and represent such specific worldviews they seem to be at opposite ends of the spectrum until it feels more like they're at points on a circle rather than a straight line, and actually they are closer to being on the same side after all. Thought provoking and very funny!

I love that Greg Lam doesn't focus on the miraculous event itself in this 10-minute comedy, but how it affects the people who experience it -- the emotions are deep, varied, and constant in "When Jesus Drops By For Tea."

Lam also has created a wonderful character study. First, the men are perfect foils for one another, and it would be enjoyable to act either role. Also, Lam generously shows how some people have a complicated relationship with religion, even when it's positive.

I hope "When Jesus Drops By For Tea" will have a long, robust production history.
