I really love this play. We often see meanness in teens, but rarely do we see such internal ugliness as Alex puts on display here, and it's such a great choice (to see and for the actor). Both of these roles are absolute powerhouses, and McClain's short drama is full of juicy power shifts, delightful symbolism, and loud silences. It's just so good. Seriously. We don't see plays like this as much as we should. Highly recommend.

In MUDDY SNEAKERS, Emily McClain shares such an intimate and thrilling navigation of this relationship between two high school seniors, both strong in different but compelling ways. And as they negotiate the terms of their relationship, the setting of the Suwanee Creek Greenway walking trail provides the perfect backdrop for their struggle. Well done!

What seems like just another run by friends, McClain takes us into a detour of power struggles, truth vs. lies, and out and blackmail just to get one's way. Stella and Alex are typical teens and they are done so well that it's a heartbreaking come to Jesus between to people who thought they were friends only to realize that this was an illusion, Muddy Sneakers today, Business shoes tomorrow. Life continues on.
