Recommendations of James Walters and the Case of the Miramar Murders

  • Morey Norkin: James Walters and the Case of the Miramar Murders

A terrific noir spoof oozing with atmosphere and great characters. There’s quite a meta element as well. Brian Cern’s dialogue hits all the right notes. I especially enjoyed the voiceovers and the snark from the more mature actress. Well done!

  • Lynn Millar: James Walters and the Case of the Miramar Murders

We come to the theater to find a strange mix to revealing reality. Well this play brings that alive. I was challenged in this theatrical tale of who killed the theater owner with a dark yet hilarious tone. The characters both confess and obscure the truth. Leading actress and actor, young starlet and the recluse living in the basement, each bring a different take on reality and who-dun-it.

  • Shelley Chester: James Walters and the Case of the Miramar Murders

A fun, twisted, film noir style Whodunit. Brian Cern pens a mystery that keeps you engaged knitting together a tight story through humor and well-developed characters. One of my favorite lines is, “That’s when I noticed young Anna, lurking above us like a gargoyle, struggling to be an ingénue. The Mary Pickford of the eavesdropping set.” Turn down the lights, nestle in your club chair with a glass of Brandy, and enjoy James Walters and the Case of the Miramar Murders.

  • Rachel Feeny-Williams: James Walters and the Case of the Miramar Murders

From the moment the voiceover 'noire' style started this piece I was hooked! From there Brian Cern takes you through a wonderful adventure with beautifully created characters, a brilliant story that keeps you guessing (as a good old fashioned detective story should) and all framed in the noire styling makes this piece brilliant. It would be brilliant to watch as the visual element of set and costumes would just be the icing on this lovely cake...of murder! Very well written.
