Ooooh SPOOKY. This one act about a mysterious bridge in a small southern town at the center of several unexplained disappearances gets creepier and creepier as it goes along. I love all the instances of uncertainty over what is real versus what seems to be real, James's creepy, cryptic warning, and the twist ending. Also, this play would be a sound designer's dream. I'm glad I read it during the day. Hope I'm not too scared to walk down the hall to the bathroom tonight.

Everyone loves a good mystery but Emily's Owl Creek takes it to a whole new level. The suspense over what happened in this small town so long ago is brilliantly built with small moments to start and that is what draws you in. As the piece unfolds the story continues to give and give. Any audience seeing this piece will be drawn in, just as I was, with a want...no need to know what will happen and that makes this an amazingly written and compelling piece of theatre. Looking for a thriller/mystery? This show is for you!

Delightfully creepy, full of dread, and entrenched in good, old small town secrets, McClain's riff on Bierce's short story is fantastic. This script is filled with moment after escalating moment of "something is wrong," and I want nothing more than to see it live. The mysteries at hand loom over every scene, and the sound/set design would be such FUN to figure out and nail together. If you're looking to give more horror scripts a chance, it would be unwise to neglect this one.
