  • Marj O'Neill-Butler: Into the Dark

My adrenalin started to pump from the very beginning of this short play. A stranger turns into someone familiar but not, as the woman tries to walk her dog and get safely home. Many twists and turns. Every woman's nightmare.

I'm pretty sure I held my breath for all 12 pages of this gripping and all-too-timely play. Lamedman keeps you on the edge of your seat through the twists and turns of a story that reveals itself to be not quite what it seems at first. Expertly done!

  • John Mabey: Into the Dark

Debbie Lamedman writes with so much emotional honesty and poignant dialogue in INTO THE DARK. Starting with a frighteningly familiar encounter as a woman walks at night, the story expands to reveal a relationship with just as many dark turns and revelations. This play makes such a compelling drama for staged, outdoor, or podcast productions from a playwright who is masterful in crafting complete stories in ten minutes.

  • Maggie Gallant: Into the Dark

I felt tense from the start reading this brilliant short. So horribly relatable, so disturbing, and it made me catch my breath with the escalation and revelations. This one has been hard to get out of my head and even though it's already had many recommendations I had to add my own. This is writing to aspire to.

I'm glad I read this in the morning. No one likes to dwell on what could happen in your day-to-day living but INTO THE DARK, by Debbie Lamedman, puts you square in the target. Walking a dog alone at night might be scary enough but Lamedman ratchets up the suspense until you want to scream. It is a riveting piece that makes you want to find out what happens next. Well done, Lamedman.

  • Emily McClain: Into the Dark

The first few pages of this short play made me draw my shoulders up and clench my jaw in recognition. Lamedman illuminates a scenario that is all too familiar to any woman who has ever tried to walk somewhere alone at night- and as the play continues, the tension evolves from stranger-danger to "how could I not have seen this sooner" horror. This would be a gripping and tense experience as an audio drama!

  • Lee R. Lawing: Into the Dark

Wow! What a great play filled with so many twists that it leaves you unsure of what's happening at first and you feel so much anxiety for Elanor who is out walking her dog. There are so many who fall in love and start to become like the other and morph into their ideology and way of thinking. Lamedman shows us what happens when that person sees the horror of what could happen if she stays with such a man. Into the Dark gave me goosebumps about monsters in the dark and those standing in plain sight.

  • Jennifer O'Grady: Into the Dark

Extremely powerful play that appears to be one type of frightening situation--a woman walking on her own at night, and a car with a male driver following her--which Lamedman skillfully navigates into an even more chilling encounter with stunning political reverberations . So well done!

  • Ross Tedford Kendall: Into the Dark

A very frightening and real feeling play. You start out thinking one thing, and then it evolves into another, but never loses its tension and menace. A play for today that is also timeless in many ways.
