Surprising, fast-moving, and very funny. It would ba easy to make a fool out of an adult woman who still believes in Santa Claus -- but here, her obliviousness, and the deception by her unseen parents, comes off as sympathetic and even poignant.

What could be a sour, make-or-break relationship moment for Alyssa -- as she discovers her 20-something girlfriend Taylor still very sincerely believes in Santa -- turns very sweet (but never saccharine) in this holiday comedy about what it means to believe and what it means to love.

Recently I had the great honour of producing it as an audio play for Theatrical Shenanigans. Its a brilliantly funny piece that starts off intriguing the audience about what 'The Santa Thing' possibly could be and, as you are told about the 'interesting' relationship Taylor has with Santa and start to discover the truth yourself, as an audience member it makes it all the funnier still. Such a joy to produce and needs more productions!

"The Santa Thing" by Greg Lam is adorably sweet and funny. A heartwarming addition to any holiday short play festival. Greg Lam's characters are so endearing that we want to invite them to our dinners.

As a kid, I was always told, "If you believe, you receive." Once we stop believing, the holidays are never really the same, are they? There is something so endearing about Taylor, who could easily topple over into complete spoiled brat land, yet Greg Lam does a lovely job injecting her with a forgivable sense of childlike wonder and innocence. "The Santa Thing" is a complete charmer, sure to light up any holiday fest or short play festival.

Greg Lam deftly dances between the sweetness of this funny concept (Taylor, an adult, still believes in Santa) and the inherent greed of the season, which keeps the play from being too saccharine. I got to see a production of this at Madlab Theatre Roulette and it was really funny. We share Alyssa's disbelief -- but it's also heartwarming to see her not try to burst Taylor's bubble even as she finds out how expensive this bubble is going to be.

If you’re nervous about bringing a partner home for the holidays, find some relief in this play. Alyssa is nervous about meeting her girlfriend Taylor’s parents for the first time over the holidays, but the events of this play relieve her nerves and make her optimistic about this meeting with her potential future in-laws. This adorable script is easy to put on stage, and it’s sure to make you smile.

Wholesome, wide-eyed, really cute...These are the words I would use to describe this play. And despite Taylor's promise that her and Alyssa's holiday would not turn out like a Hallmark movie, there is a light dusting of Hallmark-y charm. The Santa Thing by Greg Lam is an adorable play about love, family, and steadfast belief. It will warm your heart on a cold, winter's day.

What a delightful holiday confection. Taylor's faith in Santa is touching, if a tad greedy. Alyssa's response to her confession is appropriately layered and complex. Taylor's unseen parents are very present and an integral part of her narrative. This play has a clear premise, an engaging development, and a clever resolution.
