←Recommendations of THE FERRIS WHEEL - a short play for both stage and radio

Reminiscent of Joni Mitchell’s song “The Circle Game,” D. Lee Miller uses a literal circle to spin us through a married couple’s long life together. It has wonderful overlapping of conversations that show how connected the two are in a deeply loving way. I wasn’t prepared for the tear-jerker of an ending. A touching and theatrically innovative piece.

Like the view from atop a Ferris wheel, this short play from D. Lee Miller is breathtaking. Miller’s story spans 57 years, covering a couple’s life journey as they mark milestones and reflect on their joys and sorrows. Beautifully written with an ending that will clutch at your heart. A lovely addition to any festival.

There's so much beautiful story that changes and unfolds throughout THE FERRIS WHEEL by D. Lee Miller. And with each turn we witness a different milestone and moment in the lives of a couple who also change. A profound sense of longing and connection throughout the play grounds us in deep emotion for an ending that not only surprises but takes us back to the start.

A entire lifetime in 10 minutes. D. LEE MILLER invites audiences into the private moments of one beautiful, loving, and touching partnership. Sometimes, you're at the top of the world, and other times... you are forced to observe the world alone not by your own design... but fate. LOVELY.

Whoa, a life time in ten minutes and there's a real twist/surprise at the end. I felt I knew these people. This is an interesting short play that should have a long run in festivals.

Miller packs a lifetime of love in these tiny vignettes. The initial nostalgia provides the foundation for a deeply moving dual life story. The couple is appealing at every age. Their passions for music parallel their passion for each other in delicately warm ways. Easy to produce, so long as the quick changes are truly fast, fun to perform, and a joy to behold. There’s more than a metaphorical circle of life here and audiences will enjoy the ride.

D. Lee Miller follows a couple through Ferris wheel rides over the years, beginning with their first date. Like Thornton Wilder, Miller uses repetition to convey the passage of time and illustrate changes in the couple's lives, which are not always for the better. This expertly constructed play builds to a very touching ending. I loved taking a ride on this Ferris wheel, and audiences should also find it very moving.

Saw this play read on Tiny Theater Grab Bag. So many of us have these relationships that are life-long and put us through so many turn and twists along the way, but that this is done on a Ferris Wheel gives this play that wholeness that is infinite and never ending with those big moments in life that define us, break us , or make us more aware of the short time we have on this planet.

From being at the top of the world and to every point in-between, the play skillfully gives us a love story in succinct scenes. Nuanced, heart-holding, funny, and every thing in-between, there are lives lived in a scant ten minutes.
