It’s the 1940s and World War II is raging. Americans are fighting on foreign soil for freedom in Europe. In the United States, the Ebony Eagle, a small African American newspaper in Harlem, is fighting for the freedom of its people on American soil. The newspaper’s publisher has died unexpectedly, and his socialite wife is determined to keep the publication afloat. Her challenges are formidable. She is a novice in the newspaper business. There are employees who are skeptical about her abilities. The United States government views black newspapers as the “enemy of the people”, and wants to shut them down. As if that’s not enough, unknown to most of the newspaper staff, a young, Japanese American escapee from an internment camp is being harbored in the apartment above the office. As a disgruntled employee, draws close to uncovering the secret upstairs, the women of the Ebony Eagle band together to get the young escapee to safety, before their duplicity is exposed.

We hope this play is widely read, finds dedicated collaborators, and moves swiftly...
