A short play focused on a radio call-in show and the interaction between a caller and the host. A slice of life story between a bewildered, well-meaning caller from Rockville, Indiana and a station that features human interest stories.

For a play ostensibly about a time decades ago, this feels uncomfortably modern from my chair in 2023;
Delightfully unpleasant conversation ensues. We're left to wonder what Anna Cooper said in her letter!

I loved the juxtaposition of the interviewer constantly attempting to advertise, while our middle-America protagonist thwarts all attempts to pigeon-hole her experience. She pushes beyond the stereotyped assumptions of the audience and forces us to see a more complicated America.

Each time Anna is interrupted by the hosts of the radio broadcast, I felt a deeper sense of urgency to hear her story. Their chipper, unrelenting need to insert their product plugs was frustratingly relatable!
Svich paints a moving portrait of a woman struggling to get by in a small town in Indiana but her story is easily found across the United States. Anna's desire to be a voice for those who don't get asked to speak is an incredible takeaway for this short play. Anna's monologue is a gift for a performer!
