Recommendations of The Apiary

  • Sam Wallin: The Apiary

I saw a few photos on social media of a production of this play, and had to track it down to read it. I was not disappointed! What a beautiful, strange, funny, touching play.

  • Aly Kantor: The Apiary

Comedic and horrific in turns, this succinct, tonally textured speculative piece is spare, affecting, and deeply haunting. The world of the play is both instantly recognizable and terribly alien, launching audiences into an uncanny future where anything is possible but, alas, everything is futile. Desperation drives the depraved, deeply human action, and by the end, I was feeling such an odd, jumbled cocktail of emotions. I think the subtlety will stay with me above all else. A wild ride!

  • Meredith Bartmon: The Apiary

Sweeney Todd with bees. The Apiary is unsettling in its observation of the human condition, thought provoking in its vision of the near future, and beautiful in its theatrical vision. Audiences at the Urbanite Theatre Modern Works Festival were deeply moved and completely entranced by the story and characters. I can't wait to see this play fully realized. It's an incredible opportunity for creative design work.

This play took my breath away. An incredibly smart, funny, and deeply tragic piece that is stunning in its execution.

This play rocked my socks off. It is a funny, tragic, quiet, LOUD, and ultimately reflective examination of what makes us human.
