Jack Bathke's natural dialogue and richly realized characters create a poignant, deeply human portrait of two young people standing at the threshold of adulthood, discovering that some summer nights stay with us forever.

A touching, well-crafted and authentic story about a young romance. I highly recommend it.

I remember hearing an earlier version of this play back in 2002. Bathke retains his gift of painting rich worlds and honest characters we enjoy spending our time with. We are watching a beautiful moment from yesteryear America. Poetic and lovely.

"Cicadas" is an atmospheric play about a budding romance. It's easy to imagine the distant thumping of a party mixing with the song of the cicadas that serve as the accompaniment of this well-written piece. Both Trace and Sandra serve as reminders of life fresh out of high school. Both are trying to figure out their next step and who that step will be with. I enjoyed discovering their relationship with one another as the play progressed.
