  • John Mabey: Weekend at Herbie's

In Weekend at Herbie's by Randy Hunt there’s high laughs from start to finish as a group of friends experience the consequences of having more fun than expected. Hunt gives the perfect amount of story to let the comedy shine from start to finish, escalating the laughs through to the final moments. I saw this play on stage at a theatre festival and the raucous laughter and loud applause were well deserved.

Its very easy to see why this play has already been a winner! Its a piece that draws the audience down one path, sprinkled with great laugh out loud moments before it is wonderfully twisted to an utterly fabulous ending that had me giggling LOADS! I don't want to say too much about the story itself because, as a reader, I want you to get the same joy as I did, discovering what happened (or did it?) to this group of friends last night! Well worth a read to discover that its a great comedy that only needs an audience!

It requires dedication to the cause and Alex, Cal, and Ben have it in spades. Herbie's partied so hard that he might actually be dead, and his friends complete the perfect Coup-de-tat. Randy does a great job leaving all avenues open from the start, but then goes into overtime by ensuring our protagonist unknowingly buys into the prank as well. It's wonderfully laid out and deserves an audience. wonderful show.

Nobody screws with you quite like your best friends, am I right? Randy Hunt brings this truism to life in this funny little tribute to friendship and deer piss. A group of buddies on a vacation at a beach house are interviewing with a police detective after a night of drunken debauchery and a "death" took place, when the body comes walking in. But it's a little more complicated than that. I hope you laugh at this as much as I did. Would love to see it staged.

Hahaha, I'm still laughing at the very last line in this great little play!
Herbie has passed, his friends are in mourning, a detective advises them to stay in town until this is all resolved. Seems straightforward, yes? But no...Hunt would never leave it that obvious.

A lively, sharp piece of theatre that leaves a smile on your face. Randy Hunt struck gold with this piece.

What an enormously fun piece of work is this. Cracking little story which would be huge fun to perform and with more twists and turns than a rollercoaster. Wry, dark humour and a surprise or two - Randy Hunt has served up an excellent and highly entertaining play.
