It's clear that Electra is a troubled person, whether in Sophocles' rendering of this character, or in Twigg's contemporary take. Twigg brings forth the chaos and torment of this young woman in a new way, shedding light on mixed race kinship relationships, the danger of valuing one parent (or their culture) too much, and mental health/spirituality taken to the extreme. It's jarring and powerful to see taboos on these topics brought to light.

"Nobody has time for complicated truths." Luckily this play DOES have time for them. This is a play about rage and whose rage is deserved. Very faithful to Sophocles and the ancient dramatic form in a way that is fully of the moment. A play I can't wait to see fully developed with an adventurous cast, director and creative team. Twigg joins Luis Alfaro in the conversation about genius playwrights that are breathing ferocious life into the Greeks.
