Biosphere

by Steve Lyons

UNPRODUCED. Full Length.
Inspired by the dramatic story of Biosphere 2, an environmental experiment in 1991/1992. Four people are sealed in an airtight dome in the desert. For two years they must survive debilitating hunger and dwindling oxygen. But mostly, they must survive each other.

A fascinating look at the way the male ego defines what science is and who gets to play a role in its discovery, with some fun side notes about the rich trying to control the narrative and the need for commercial goods to be then end result of everything. It would be very timely for this to be performed.

Suspenseful and funny, this drama begins with a wonderful premise and maintains the relentless energy of its storytelling with relatable, real characters ( and one villain), as well the ticking clock of an impending hazard. I found the bittersweet ending to be lovely — nuanced and very moving. I'd love to see this play come to life on the stage.
