When Janelle is helping her mom, Kristen, clean out her dying grandmother's attic she comes across boxes of diaries. When reading through them she learns that her grandma dated a woman, Rita, while they were in college. Kristen is against it, but Janelle wants to reunite Rita and her grandma before her grandma passes. With the help of her own girlfriend, Trista, Janelle crosses through time and the country to reunite them.
