  • Luis Roberto Herrera: ÁNGEL Y CHUPI (The Reinvented Queer Tale of the Puerto Rican Chupacabra)

A play that moves fearlessly between the mythical, religious, and brutal truth of romance . I'd be lying if I said this wasn't a weird play, but the kind that takes you on a journey we might all be too familiar with, disguising it within the the story between an angel and a chupacabra. I don't know how this play would look on stage, but I can't wait to find out.

A play about God and angels and demons. A play about the war between good and evil. Heaven and Hell. A play about two characters that have known each other for many, many lifetimes. This is an epic play. This is also a deeply intimate play. It's a love story about redemption and forgiveness. It's about our personal beliefs about justice and who is deserving of love. This play is full of rich dialogue and stunning imagery. A feast for the senses for every lucky audience member who will get to witness a production of this play.

A beautiful exploration of good and evil and how we're all capable of both. Gonzalez y Perez examines big questions that philosophers have wrestled with for centuries and humanizes them through angels and chupacabras. Beautifully crafted monologues that explore the belief of God within all of us, and the difference between God and Faith. The visual imagery is stunning and I would love to see this play come alive on stage.

This play destroyed me in the best possible way. A toxic love story between an angel and a the Chupacabra is the premise - but this play is so much more. It's about self-love and self-actualization. It's a reminder that the journey to healing is never linear. It meanders, sometimes leading us to the worst version of ourselves until we find our way. Gonzalez y Perez takes us on a beautiful journey and tells us something that we all need to hear; that we are worthy of love.

What begins as a divinely oddball comedy evolves effortlessly into a manic meditation on loss, love, self-worth, and redemption.

A play that takes tender care in exploring the full spectrum of it’s character’s experiences and motivations. Painful revelations are expertly disguised behind playful yet earnest dialogue that shines. This grounds the multi-dimensional odyssey in a collective truth which comforts as deeply as it cuts.

Gonzalez y Perez has packed a universe into 66 pages that challenges the audience to face growth and accountability with an open heart. Those who don't will face...

Maybe you're like Ángel, when love arrives, it means everything. Or perhaps you're like Chupi, eager to be loved even if you think you're not worthy. Or perhaps you're like Rami, and you believe that there's something worth loving in all of us. This play makes you tell on yourself, see yourself and love yourself. Bring your heart on your sleeve and you'll be transformed.

  • Nelson Diaz-Marcano: ÁNGEL Y CHUPI (The Reinvented Queer Tale of the Puerto Rican Chupacabra)

The philosophies, mythologies and psychological aspects of heaven and hell have never been as deliciously explored as Daniela manages to do in this play. Wicked with a full heart, the play takes its audience into a journey of redemption that will have you understanding your own humanity.

  • Franky D. Gonzalez: ÁNGEL Y CHUPI (The Reinvented Queer Tale of the Puerto Rican Chupacabra)

A play that is as profoundly religious as it is boldly profane. Daniela Gonzalez y Perez blends belief, philosophy, mythology, reincarnation, love, revenge, redemption, and debasement into this wonderful treatise on who is and who is not worthy of forgiveness, love, and grace. You’ll be transported from the streets of NYC to different planes of existence as you follow Angel (an angel) and Chupi (the chupacabra) and their relationship to the human—who may well be more mystical than her two counterparts—Rami. It will leave you meditating on the nature of, well, everything. A marvelous play.
