The wacking of fly swatters adds physical comedy to this short play about an American couple on a trip to experience the local charms of Mexico --- for a reason. Thank you, Vivian.

Well, I'm not going to lie, I like a little good news and nothing but that brightens up Todd and Angie's dismal date in this lovely short play. The setting is wonderful as are the fly swatters, and the disconnection at the start for the characters changes over time in a very truthful way because the characters are rich. My first Lermond play and surely not my last.

Another charmer from playwright Vivian Lermond. PEDRO'S PATIO features three, well-crafted characters who felt, to me, as if I had read much more about their lives--their backstory--than I actually read. This is because Lermond has a skill of creating characters that have full lives with backstories, a present, and the promise of a future. This play gives you all of that and it does so without forcing the characters' history on the reader/audience. That is not easy to pull off but Vivian Lermond does it with a sure hand.

  • D. Lee Miller: PEDRO'S PATIO

In Pedro's Patio, Vivian Lermond set up this poor couple for the worst. When you're handed fly swatters before you even order? With strong characters and dialogue this blooms into a fuller picture of something worse... Or does it? Todd and Angie have much to be thankful for - including Lermond writing about them!

Angie and Todd are not enjoying their vacation or each other until they happen upon Pedro's Patio. The warm and empathetic proprietor, plus a jolt of good news, turns around their attitudes. A truly savory confection!

A delight on the first read, a deeper experience on the second. Lermond skillfully uses setting, character, and mood to layer a situation far more delicate than it initially seems, and the payoff is wonderful! A simple dinner out brings this couple face to face with the one thing they were trying to get away from. Todd and Angie seems like people we'd like to know better after they get past this hurdle. Easily identifiable and fun to play. Pedro brings energy and flavor to an already tasty dish!

  • Andrew Martineau: PEDRO'S PATIO

An American couple in Mexico with certain expectations about the food and cuisine makes for a very comical scenario. Lermond is a master at authentic dialogue and diction, and this play is certainly no exception. I was not prepared for the heartwarming ending, and I know this would be a big hit in any ten-minute play festival. Muy bueno!

Vivian Lermond is either very well travelled and observant or has the kind of imagination I can only imagine! I swear I heard that bug, smelled the Salsa and choked on the Margarita!
Her characters, their dialogue and interplay are so believable that you wish you were there...or not depending on your taste in food and swank! For me, this wee piece left me wanting a second helping...

A cute combo platter of marital spats and insect swatters along with a charming host who makes a wicked margarita and dispenses wisdom. iQue bueno!

A charming and funny play that hides a touching theme just below the surface. I particularly like the little touches that bring you into this unique location. The dialogue is snappy and the characters are colorful and well drawn. Perfect for any ten minute festival.
