  • Shaun Leisher: The Bad in Each Other

An engrossing two-hander about capitalism, activism and art. A gift to actors and directors.

Perez does it again! A deeply engrossing two-hander about art and activism, and which is the real revolution. These two characters are so well-articulated and specific, and their developing relationship sucks you in. This is the kind of play that rewards actors willing to put in the work: I looked up from the page sweating and smiling and happy and sad.

  • Dave Osmundsen: The Bad in Each Other

A fascinating pas de deux between two characters, both of whom want justice in the world but want to achieve it in two completely different ways. Should they each stay in their lane, or be more radical in their response to social injustices? Perez skewers SJWs and sellouts alike, and portrays a couple who, as their relationship unfolds over several years, can't live with or without each other. You know that these two probably shouldn't be together, but it's devilishly fun to watch them turn on (and to (and on)) each other.

Perez does an excellent job of letting us peer into a relationship steeped with negative empathy. I understand exactly what both these characters want from life and eachother, and Im both deeply compelled and frustrated with what they do to achieve that. This play asks hard questions about the American left, activism, and what it means to be in a broken relationship. The personal meets the political. Well done.
