STEVEN G. MARTIN is a master at writing 1 minute plays. “A Minute Past Midnight on Valentine’s Day, or, the Untold Truth About Romantics” is brilliantly written. Love is such a complex emotion and almost certainly can be felt differently by those who experience it.

So many emotions in one page. Morgan is certain that they are being punked, and I am sure that is why they say the things they say regarding the "secret admirer." Robin was doing their best to make a magical moment, only to be destroyed by Morgan's words. We see their whole relationship clearly and know it will now never be the same again, no matter what happens after the end of this play.

Utter heartbreak in one minute. Gorgeous.

If you’re skeptical of the one-minute play form, you will find no better argument for it than the works of Steve Martin. Once again he delivers here, in a short but powerful emotional saga with a beginning, middle, and end, packed with secrets, longings, implied backstory, reveals, decision points, and consequences. A story of huge emotional stakes told with breathtaking economy.

Steve Martin has made me a believer in the one-minute play. You can feel the setting, the time of night, the expectation, the hope, and the inevitable all in a scant minute. And you know the backstory without any explanation. Beautifully done.

It's an amazing feat to be able to craft such an impactful moment in one minute. Steve G. Martin's short play is a heartbreaking scene that would be perfect for any acting exercise or short play festival. I could feel the moment Robin's heart broke. Beautifully done.

Jesus, that hurt to read. The kind of heartbreak that Steve Martin shows here seems too honest and raw not to have some basis in real life. And it hurts more in it's relevancy. Show me someone who hasn't been on both sides of this equation; someone who hasn't had to hurt (or be hurt) because of true feelings being shown, but I'll bet you can't. Steve has held a really unflattering mirror up to us all.
