The Exorcism of Everett Jones is a dark thriller that explores unresolved trauma, its lifelong reverberations, and the lengths one man will go to survive. Those lengths include an unconventional therapist, therapeutic revenge, gunpowder and a lit joint, a naked and bound senior citizen, a rat, and naturally, a dildo or two. It takes the conventional therapy play--think Equus or Agnes of God--and turns it upside down.

LGBTQA+ youth are 40% more likely to experience abuse (physical, sexual, emotional) than their heterosexual peers. And, like all marginalized communities, they are even less likely to be believed or supported. No one wants to be a statistic, but as part of that 40%, I can attest that the shockwaves and landmines echo decades after it’s over. Abuse and bullying are as common and universal as laughter, so I decided to address it in the most natural and light-hearted way possible--a gory, revenge thriller--of course.

I was lucky enough to be part of a playwrights workshop with Nathan when he was working on this play. I find this play to be a fascinating piece that tackles subjects that are rarely covered, in a unique way. Nathan has crafted an exciting night of theatre that will have audiences talking for weeks after they see it.
