Vacillating between the slapstick and the uncomfortable, Lubischer provides an exploration of the van Acren family at a time of expected and unexpected upheaval. He expertly switches between modes while maintaining believability. Lubischer’s skill lies in keeping his characters on the edge of absurdity; leading to a truthful and often poignant exploration of grief, identity, and what it means to hold on too long, or not long enough.

A play that surprises readers from the start. A play about the way people deal with loss in different ways. Loved how this play depicts a rural community without using stereotypes. Would love to see this produced one day. It's a play that should be produced all over.

Alex's piece bursts with life and energy from the first page - leading you in with a surprising hook and keeping you on your toes with twists and turns as it unravels. It is also so unbelievably funny - one of the funniest plays I've ever had the pleasure of seeing - and one that had an audience gasping for breath between moments of gut-busting laughter. Beneath the hilarity is a strong emotional core and a mediation on grief that I found both profound and moving. The kind of play you just fall in love with.

A fantastic play for midwest regional theatres! The characters are so realistic and complex. Many surprise twists throughout. Amazing roles for actors of a variety of ages, all trying to figure out how to move forward. Fantastic scenes for class and studio work!

So many times in life, we look at our choices, decide that we did everything right and then wonder how it all got so bad. Alex Lubuscher has defined this phenomenon in a wonderful story with spectacular dialogue and powerful scenes. There is a sprinkling of humor and absurdity - just enough to flavor the goulash to a delightful stew. Reminded me of Tracy Letts. Brava.

I had the pleasure of seeing a reading of this play at the GPTC New Plays Conference, and it had the audience rolling with laughter! At times it's dark, thoughtful, and important, but most of all, it's hilarious and it shows a lot of empathy for rural folks despite their flaws. Check it out!

Everything is going according to plan for Kara until it doesn't. The future isn't what we think it was going to be and we have to find our way to one forward in uncertainty. Well done.
