  • Steven G. Martin: Tribute to the Mouse King

"Tribute to the Mouse King" is the play to produce during the Christmas season. Ky Weeks has created a marvelous underdog tale with humor, sadness, rage, homages galore to Tchaikovsky's "Nutcracker," darkness, a lot of theatricality, and an uplifting ending -- especially if you're a mouse.

"Tribute to the Mouse King" will entertain, frighten, and delight audiences of all ages. And it will be so much fun for actors, designers, and directors. This is the Christmas play to produce. [24/10/10]

This sweet, silly holiday play is like an (occasionally dark and demented) children's book come to life, full of tiny characters (mice!) who, nevertheless, are larger than life on stage! It's consistently funny, fast-moving, and packed with lovable characters that any actor would be lucky to play! I love the simple but magical theatricality of the flashback scenes, which are all hilarious, stand-out moments. The ending is somehow profoundly dark and surprisingly wholesome - this unconventional holiday tale will leave a bloody handprint on your heart! A unique, memorable alternative to the...

  • Sean Murphy: Tribute to the Mouse King

For me viewing a good play sets a mobile of thoughts and images spinning in my mind, and the full import of the imagery grows as that thought cloud lingers and I wander in it. Tribute to the Mouse King was like that. Very rich and poetic. It played well for the stage when I saw it, and the audience loved it. Me too. Ky's short plays are read and staged pretty often here in Bellingham. The scripts are always well tailored to the stage, sensitive to the needs of actors, and the laughs land. This play brought me joy.
