  • Christian Flynn: So Panic

What a gorgeous, delicate, heart-ripping play. A work of extreme power. So Panic sneaks up on you, not with an over-blown plot or exaggerated characters, but with it's attention to nuance and extreme depth of feeling. Kit's mental illness is almost frighteningly real. A play that's difficult to get through for sure, but absolutely worth it if you can.

Care of others vs Care of ones self, that is the incredibly intricate balance that Cassidy explores in this fascinating piece. Surrounding the piece are complex issues like self-identity and mental health but what stands out for me (and will for quite a few I think) is the centre of this piece, its characters. Characters that, as an audience, you see go through such emotional turmoil. You can't help but feel for them and that is what will hold an audience and why this piece needs to be seen, even if you do cry as a result.

Oh my goodness, what a tour de force this play is! Cassidy Byron's play about a young man with anxiety and depression and the girlfriend who tries to help him without losing herself in the process is such a perfect depiction of how mental health issues affect not only those who suffer from them, but those who love those who suffer from them as well. This play is beautiful and devastating.
