Recommendations of Triptych - A Love Story in Three Acts

  • Kyle R. Thomas: Triptych - A Love Story in Three Acts

So refreshingly honest and authentic. One of my favorite things about this play is how the story builds. Each moment propels from the last, where there's no going back to how the world was before. This play also includes the best possible use of a narrator, one that keeps things moving and keeps things fun. This play is everything that's right about live theatre.

  • Julie Zaffarano: Triptych - A Love Story in Three Acts

I love these characters! All of them (including the narrator). I love how they let down their guards and open themselves to possibilities. Sam Heyman has created a charming play, exploring what it means to be a human attracted to others and in love. The characters are real and well-drawn and we care and worry for them.

  • Brenton Kniess: Triptych - A Love Story in Three Acts

What a charming play! Sam Heyman beautifully crafts these characters and this conflict in this unique love story. I found the structure to be very effective and engaging as it made me more invested the more I read. This would be a wonderful addition to any night of one acts. Utterly delightful!

  • Danielle Frimer: Triptych - A Love Story in Three Acts

A meet cute melange for our modern moment! Heyman nails quippy flirtation, cleverly utilizes a narrator as not just a storytelling device, but also to heighten the humor of the piece, and deftly and earnestly explores identity and modern relationship dynamics in this tightly structured one act. And hooray for bi representation! I look forward to reading more of this talented playwright's work.

  • Samuel Langellier: Triptych - A Love Story in Three Acts

Three Acts, three characters, hinged (not the app) together into one love story. Triptych calls for more than a trial run.

Heyman's compelling narrative grants desire a place at the front of the stage as those young and in love find that their hearts always have more room and can move beyond the heterodoxy. Pine away as the pins fall into place to connect and reconnect missed connections and missions of heartfelt love.

Chemistry is always at the forefront when brewing up the form of a polycule, and Heyman surely knows how to face it and frame all three sides.

  • Kelsey Sullivan: Triptych - A Love Story in Three Acts

A joy to watch, this play puts the charm in charming - I was delighted from start to finish! Heyman explores polyamory through a deep, honest, and respectful lens; and yet somehow, they find room for comedy and lightness throughout. There is a sweetness interwoven into the fabric of this play that creates a joyous atmosphere for any reader/viewer to be a part of. Not to mention, there's something so refreshing about watching nice people make simple, human mistakes that they work to remedy together with "HONESTY AND COMMUNICATION!" (the true heart of the show).

  • Morey Norkin: Triptych - A Love Story in Three Acts

This is a play about love, and I love everything about it! The characters, the three-act structure that gives focus to each character respectively, the ever-present narrator who seamlessly moves the story along providing insight into the characters’ thoughts and unspoken words. As with real life and love, there are missed signals, misinterpreted signals, and the nagging question of what if. You can’t help but care for these characters, and Sam Heyman provides a satisfying conclusion. Do yourself a favor and read this play!

  • Scott Sickles: Triptych - A Love Story in Three Acts

After seeing a reading, a revised reading, and even more rewrites, I'm compelled to re-recommend TRIPTYCH!

Heyman's characters and their bonds have grown deeper and more complex. It's a great example of how dramatic conflict can be three lovely people at cross-purposes, wanting similar but not necessarily the same things, while realizing lost potential and the potential for greater loss.

Phillip is especially wonderful: a lovable guy who "knows" the objects of his adoration are out of his league. You want to protect him. Fortunately, so do Stella and Marc, who have their own trepidations...

  • Erin Moughon: Triptych - A Love Story in Three Acts

A fresh and refreshing take on love, in all of its forms. Heyman creates relatable characters that draw you into their specific relationship complications, but not the ones you think. Honest, frank communication takes center stage in this lovely play that centers on four beautifully rendered humans (yes, the narrators is fully realized as well!). Delightful work!

  • claire dettloff: Triptych - A Love Story in Three Acts

everyone's true colors come out during a game of catan, and that rings true for our three characters in triptych. heyman expertly reveals the ways in which these three people are intertwined, drawing you in and allowing you to see the good, bad, and ugly in all of them. this play is deeply human, deeply funny, and any short play festival would be better for having it in their programming.
