Broken Spirits is a both heart warming and gut wrenching look at cancer, the stresses it brings both emotionally and financially, and one man's spiral when he's lost control of his life. As we see him slowly succumb to alcohol, stress, and desperation, we also see how friends and loved ones are still wanting the best for him, root for him, and help him navigate his out of control world. Intense and highly personal, this play will captivate an audience with its haunting story.

A beautiful and heart-wrenching piece. The trials that gradually wear down the protagonist are Jobian in scope but real and grounded, with the kinds of details that make the indignities imposed by impersonal systems feel personal. We cannot help but feel for the characters struggling to survive and wrest some hope from difficult circumstances. Levine masterfully builds everything, hemming the characters into desperate and limited choices. This is a play that will haunt me in the best way.

This drama about addiction and our broken healthcare system and the hopelessness that comes from being caught by both is a wonderful example of how so many Americans are one bad health diagnosis away from disaster. I appreciated the moments of lightness and levity within the drama, and the hopeful ending is uplifting.

Life is a series of events that can feel like it overwhelms us and that is what Jack has brought to this play. Daniel is a man who seems to have endless events that knock him down and as the audience, you feel that emotional turmoil with him as thing after thing in his life goes wrong. As a story, it grabs the audience and hold their attention as they are guided through this man's life. I shed a tear on more than one occasion, particularly for the wonderfully powerful ending. It's a piece that will stay with me!

Jack Levine honors all his characters with respect and grace, emphasizing their shared humanity, and that's really why we care so deeply about them. I read this play in one sitting last night, and find myself still thinking about it hours later. Highly recommended!

Jack Levine spins a tale of loss, collapse, and, ultimately, of redemption. The difficulties faced by Daniel continue to pile up to present an immense mountain from which he slips and begins tumbling out of control. The saving grace for Daniel is the support of loved ones – his wife, best friend, boss, and even his bartender. It’s a heartbreaking story but one that has an ending tinged with hope. Well done.

A very moving story of how sometimes in life we can feel like we are walking under a "dark cloud" but there is always hope- even in dark places. The relationship between Jess and Daniel captures you with its authenticity - they are imperfect but love perfectly. A love like this transcends and is the true definition of romance. This play doesn't sugarcoat hardships and unfortunately is an accurate portrayal of how a few wrong turns can leave you lost- serving as a reminder to love more and judge folks less. Well done. Lots of heart in this piece! Kudos!
