Why Taylor Swift is Gay: A Presentation

A playwright and self-proclaimed “Gaylor” takes us through a presentation on why she is convinced that Taylor Swift is gay (and possibly already coming out). But what begins as her exploration of Taylor’s career, public life, and possible secrets is interrupted by interludes from her own life, until she’s faced not with the truth about Taylor, but instead with the reality of why she so badly needs her to be gay.

This play is pure FUN…until it brings up all the gay yearning feels you didn’t know you were gonna be processing today. Lilly converted me into a “gaylor” almost immediately — this text is cannon (no matter how gay Taylor may or may not be!) And also full of messy, tender complex emotion that wrenches at your heart!

What a romp! This is a hilarious premise (I LOL’d throughout reading) with a deeply theatrical and moving execution. I loved the queer analysis of Taylor Swift’s songs and the celebrity gossip, but ultimately the play is a personal portrayal of comphet-induced heartbreak and a plea for queer pride.

As a Swiftie who has followed the Gaylor saga for years, I really LOVED this play. Lilly does a great job of intersecting her own experiences and her imagination about Taylor’s closed-door conversations very well in a way that feels poignant and surprising. I would love to see this performed one day!
