Through a disagreement about an old car, Murphy explores community, intergenerational tensions, grief, and hope for the future. Rarely can a play invoke 9/11 in a way that feels fresh, specific, and powerful. IMPLOSION does so, to devastating and thought-thought provoking effect, with the lightest of touches.

A strong dynamic between these two characters and outlooks.

Two carefully and brilliantly wrought characters engage in a negotiation of responsibility, memory, and legacy. Every time I read it, I find more to think about-and perhaps like its characters, I find in it as much joy and hopefulness as I do ache.

This play brings two unlikely characters together in a beautiful way! There is potency in the drama in this piece demonstrated delicately with the weight of objects left behind by loved ones on the people left with them. This play's reference to an unseen car and being an "exterior" set play makes it great for 10-minute play festivals and easily produced! I also appreciate a 9/11 play that doesn't retraumatize the audience!

An unexpected approach to the continued aftershocks of 9/11, this is a beautiful play with nuanced, three-dimensional characters—an expertly-written two-hander with rich roles actors will enjoy digging into.

This play grabs you quickly with its repartee between two very different characters, one with a lot of mileage and one with a lot of skills but less mileage. But what gradually unfolds is a beautiful, heartfelt drama that exposes the pain of the older character and portrays his grief with unexpected grace. A richly layered piece that brings the past into the present in the car on the sidewalk as well as in the lives of both characters

Pays reference to 9/11 without being overbearing. And Mr. Gordon's wife almost seems present on the stage, despite being deceased. This play does a lot with few words.

Delightfully odd and oddly intimate -- a gem of a play.
