Tired of her Mom controlling every single aspect of her life, Luisa secretly decides to take a gap year after high school. The only problem? She has yet to tell her Mom or her two best friends, Seto and Emmy. Best friends since sixth grade, their senior year was supposed to be their best yet. During their weekly trip to the mall, the girls discover that Adventureland Amusement Park, abandoned for 15 years, is being demolished, so they decide to get one last "adventure" in. The plan is clear: sneak in, steal treasure from the old pirate ride and get out before getting caught. It will be easy...or so they think. However, when they enter the ride, the animatronic characters spring to life, seize the friends, outfitting them in pirate costumes, and force them to join the battle with the cursed crew of Ching Shih, the greatest pirate queen in history (she was a real pirate). Should the battle be lost, the girls themselves will become permanent characters in the abandoned ride.

Brenda Fager's CHASING THE CARPE DIEM is a fun, thoughtful, and entertaining play that is perfect for a teenage cast. Teens are bound to relate to Luisa, a high school senior who is terrified of being trapped by her mother's post-graduation plans, but equally terrified of following her own dreams and desires. The elements of magical realism, heartfelt comedy, and adventure easily combine into a highly enjoyable play that will engage teens and adults alike. Can't wait to see a full production of this one!
