Recommendations of This Grass Kills People

  • Samara Siskind: This Grass Kills People

Were they warned? Yes. Did they choose to disregard the threat and sip mimosas? Also, yes. Daniel Prillaman has penned a brilliantly absurd post-pandemic gem that is part satire, part cautionary tale, and one hundred percent riveting. A clever, timely short that I would kill to see on stage.

I had the pleasure of seeing a production of This Grass Kills People in July 2023. From the minute the play begin, I was hooked. The play is a fable, but deftly done. It's the perfect play for 2023 and a reflection on "post pandemic" life.

In THIS GRASS KILLS PEOPLE, Daniel Prillaman takes us on a journey. I was hooked right from the start. What first feels like a dark comedic dystopian play turns into an even darker conclusion. This play is cool, funny, and unexpectedly terrifying!

  • John Busser: This Grass Kills People

I love to see people get the comeuppance they deserve, and Daniel Prillaman delivers up the goods here. With an unusual premise (although, is it ALL that unusual in 2023? We still have friggin' flat Earthers out there in force), he skewers those who would rather stick to their own agenda rather than heed warnings given in good faith. And as always, deniers gonna deny. Luckily, we have plays like this to both enlighten and enjoy. Now you kids get off of my lawn... before the lawn strikes back.

  • Ross Tedford Kendall: This Grass Kills People

Very spooky, and very timely. I particularly like the metaphors being used here, especially those that warn against complacency and not taking said warnings seriously. A great play for a horror festival!

  • Christopher Plumridge: This Grass Kills People

What do people always do in horrors like this? They always fail to listen to the best advice, and although this grass may not have killed anyone for a fair while, Emerson is determined that there won't be any deaths on her watch.
This play is great fun, well that's how some audiences will take it, and it has the perfect blend of horror too.
    Brilliant!

  • Jacquelyn Floyd-Priskorn: This Grass Kills People

This is intense. It has an aura of comedy, but that sucker punch of reality underneath it all is what will get you. Emerson is the social media voice of reason, screaming to help people who just don't want to be helped. And after a certain point, the Emersons of the world will just have to drink their mimosas, swallowing the juice, champagne and desire to care for their fellow humans because their fellow humans refuse to be helped...until it's too late, of course.

  • Greg Mandryk: This Grass Kills People

If you spent the early part of this decade watching in horror as the "I did my own research" crowd did everything in their power to make a bad situation so much worse, THIS GRASS KILLS PEOPLE might be the delicious morsel of revenge porn you've been craving. Brilliant!

  • Brenton Kniess: This Grass Kills People

Daniel Prillaman's THIS GRASS KILLS PEOPLE starts off with some light comedy, but then it builds up in a tension-filled drama that makes your heart beat out of your chest. That's the magic that Prillaman creates in this short horror. These are great characters who play off of each other very well. The dialogue is very fluid and offers some great moments for actors to relish these roles. Lots of potential for design elements and for a director to develop something very powerful.

  • Adam Richter: This Grass Kills People

Emerson is the hero we all need and none of us deserve. "This Grass Kills People" is the play we all need, period. A brilliantly horrifying and pointed satire, this play shines a light on post-COVID 'over-it' attitudes and skewers them with deadly accuracy.
I want to see this play. I want everyone to see this play.
