A true exploration of young female friendships and what happens when you start to outgrow them. This plays has rich characters with complicated feelings, and I found the setting of the canoe on the waters of Lake Superior to be a beautifully unsettling place.

Small-town, Midwest feels with high-intensity build, TRAGEDY SOUND takes us on a dangerous voyage with strong female characters guiding the way. Saari gives the creative teams of actors and designers fabulous opportunities at theatricality in bringing this show to the stage.

An awesome piece for three actresses that would be a blast to design and direct. I would love to see this done.

There’s a sense of impending doom in Tragedy Sound that holds you in suspense from the opening scene until End of Play. Becky, Billie, and Mariel are three young women with shared experiences, shared love, and a shared sense of destiny. Yet Saari has crisply defined them and given them unique voices, words that can at times cut like a razor and then again, can comfort like a velvet glove. This is an amazing story that can easily be envisioned on the big screen. But the theatricality when played out on the stage has got to be stunning. Bravo!

With TRAGEDY SOUND, Saari once again revisits her native Michigan's upper peninsula, exploring the lives of three women and a life-altering event they share. The women are sharply defined, multi-dimensional and best: we see their tight-knit bond in their shared history, humor and even music. As the gravity of their situation becomes clear, we feel the women's fear and panic acutely because we've come to know and care for them. The play is inherently theatrical and provides an amazing opportunity for three actors.
