A stellar ‘creature feature,’ though one that isn’t played for scares. We don’t even get to see what’s in the box, but we get a sense of what it is through excellent dialogue and well-timed sound f/x. And the story’s human characters display a great deal of emotional depth, which is especially impressive given that this is essentially a very short script!

This play is an excellent premise delivered expertly. Elizabeth Keel peels back the world of this world slowly letting us fall in love with the two leads. There is a heart beating in the core of this play that gives it such life. Really wonderful writing.

You know those stories about angels coming down to help us out at our lowest point? Ever wonder about how much cooler those stories would be if the angels were Biblically accurate? Accurate enough to require vet techs? (iykyk) Well Elizabeth A. M. Keel certainly has, and what makes AWESOME POSSUM so (yeah, I'll say it) miraculous is that it has genuine emotion, a true undercurrent of grief and authentic catharsis, underpinning its terrific high concept. A ten minute gem.

First off, I learned what didelphidae means. That was fun. Secondly, Keel does a great job here giving the audience just enough information to understand the heart of this story without throwing a lot of exposition out right off the bat. This is a great chance for a dad-type actor to get into his feelings. In a lot of ways, it's simply magical.

This play is deliciously deft and quirky! It will lead you through the gamut of nearly every emotion with carefully portioned, thoughtful exposition, and when the full picture reveals itself, you'll find yourself blinking with surprise and delight. It makes perfect use of one of my favorite theatrical tricks - engagement through imagination. The audience can't help but lean forward in their seats and participate in this quiet, affecting magic. What an oddly shaped little gem of a short play!

The back and forth between Amy and Dr. Roman creates a spectacularly weird suspense. That’s distinctly veterinary mythological - evolutionary theological - or something. Words fail. This short marvel of a play - AWESOME POSSUM by Elizabeth A. M. Keel - toys with your imagination until you’re afraid to discover what’s in your own head. Don’t want to say more. So read, produce, enjoy the poke at your sanity.

Awesome for sure! Great structure and solid storytelling. The characters feel true to life, even if the possum is a bit weird. Terrific example of the 10 minute piece.

Well, this is entirely my jam: charming, funny, sad, horrifying, heart-warming, and filled with awe and wonder. The characters are so distinct and well-drawn, the exposition so deftly handled, the scope of the reveals so expansive, the emotional impact so strong...it's like Elizabeth Keel studied my brain to know what I'd find most all-around satisfying and put it down on the page. Brava. An absolute winner.

Quite possibly of the wildest reveals I've ever read. I don't know what I expected, but it was not where Keel so deftly led me. To spoil any of the fine details would be ruining the magic, but rest assured this is a grand short play. Succinct in its brilliance, and deeply moving.
