What a lovely, quirky little play. The characters are intriguing and really draw you into their romance. True to life, since they are in the early stages of their relationship they are appropriately awkward with each other. Delightful story. Highly recommend!

AWWWWWW! I never thought of Halloween as a cute and romantic holiday but Hannah has made it just that. As the audience, we are privileged to be observers of the 'unusual' but wonderfully funny and lovely relationship between Alex and Coquelicot (fabulous name by the way!) We, as humans, often think we're a little weird and worry about how that impacts on other people but the way these two confidently and wonderfully discuss their interesting quirks is proof that it doesn't matter how weird you are, as long as you find the right weirdo to be with! Utterly adorable!

As always Hannah's characters are delightfully idosyncratic—and that's, frankly, enough! Those of us lucky enough to be immersed in the Lost Children universe are in for a particular treat. This play is filled with delicious subtext for fans of this universe, like a romantic Halloween gift that keeps on giving. It's spooky, it's silly, it's romantic, and the character voices are (as always) unique and pristine. Whether you read it as a tiny love story or a treatise on moving past generational trauma, this one's a delight!

First of all, there is nothing, NOTHING irrational about Coquelicot's apprehension of washing machines! They are like people in that they all seem the same but each one is different with a unique set of needs, demands, and methods of communication which vary from clear to bafflingly opaque!

NOT UNLIKE OUR CHARACTERS!!! (See, it was relevant!)

From the get-go this is a loaded conversation. The small talk and banalities and never really small or banal. DeFrates establishes a fun yet off-kilter atmosphere that's perfect for her two oddballs. They're impossible not to like and, by the end, adore...

“Better Than Normal” is such a fabulous play from Hannah Lee DeFrates! The characterization, the dialogue, the ending is everything I could’ve hoped for! The progression throughout paid off in the final pages and I absolutely adore these characters!

This sweet, lovely play from Hannah Lee DeFrates will have you smiling throughout! What could be happier than an adorable young couple just starting their romantic journey together? Although this is set on Halloween, I, for one, could watch this anytime of year!

Oh, sweet youth. This charming short play by Hannah Lee DeFrates portrays a moment between two adorable characters just starting to share and learn about one another. Audiences will have "all the feels" after seeing it performed.
