Everyone has their secrets, including Lauren - a bookish English major by day, fat fetish camgirl by night. These worlds collide as romance sparks between Lauren and fellow classics-lover Simon, who meet studying Titus Andronicus in their Shakespeare class. The two dive into the play and discover the deep, world-altering nature of pain and trauma – even the fictional kind. In an analysis that borders on the supernatural, this decidedly feminine horror play explores patriarchy’s morbid fascination with and fetishization of violence, fat bodies, and voiceless women.

I really loved this play. The majority of the time, plays about fat women revolve around the idea of becoming smaller. I argue that in this play, Lauren (the main character) is body positive (or at the very least, body neutral). A story where a fat character grapples with societal and personal expectations of body standards that doesn't devolve into self-hatred is wonderful and necessary. This is that story.

This is a firecracker of a play that takes you to such unexpected and marvelously frightening places. I love stories that draw on classical texts without putting them on a pedestal, and Greene is a master interrogator. It's devastating how familiar the male characters in Lauren's world are, but that only makes the story so much more necessary.
