When Soso is left for dead on the Eastern Front, he’s taken in by the Kremlin due to his shocking resemblance to a certain someone. Koba is tasked with training him to perform the role of a lifetime: Stalin’s body double. While Soso is a performer—trained to dance, juggle, and tour the countryside entertaining peasants, Koba is an Actor’s Actor, a student of Stanislavski himself (maybe you’ve heard of his System?), committed to the pursuit of perezhivanie, or experiencing a character’s reality. Based on true events, the doubles prepare for the Conference at Tehran, when three so-called Great Men (or were they merely players?) decided the fate of the 20th century.

Dianne Nora has written an absolute gem, a dream for actors and theatres of any size and shape. I was so so lucky to catch a reading of this play by Ground Up Productions in NYC. Nora packs a ton of heart and humor - with a dose of history- into a fast paced 90 minutes, taking audiences on the journey of these two actors preparing for the (potentially last) role of their lives. This play is a perfect fit for any theatre’s season & stage - proscenium, black box, in the round, let’s go! Produce this play!

Smart, darkly funny and edgy--- all things that make me want to see a production are here in Dianne Nora's Six Men Dressed Like Joseph Stalin. The premise about a Stalin body double and his "handler" is clever and interesting. While not "experimental" the play has enough differences from a normal script to be right on the razor's edge. Would love to see this in production especially with just two characters who propel the plot, Very cool script.

Engrossing, funny, touching, and disturbing... this work draws you in and takes you on a roller coaster of this particular historical period as seen through the eyes and actions of these two men. This would be incredible to see staged at some point; one can only imagine the triumph of the actors who would get to play these multitude of roles in only two characters.
