Both cyclical and linear, this is far and away the most moving piece of virtual theatre I've ever seen, brimming with temporal complexity while never losing its sense of intimacy. Simply put, time moves differently inside a parent/child relationship—a truth that can add richness to your life while also breaking your heart. Arrow of Time knows this, and as a result, is able to convey the breadth of human experience throughout our very short (but also very long) lives.

Allyson Dwyer's play strikes a deeply resonant piano-heartstring chord through our experience across life/time. This is one of the best manifestations of the human condition that I've listened to/read, poignantly illustrating the existential bafflement that we can only traverse the complex dimension of time in one path. Through a clever year-by-year structure, Dwyer reels us in with an emotional investment in Cheryl's passage through this tunnel, and her relationships with her loved ones. We care deeply and specifically about each character, which makes their ultimate one-way passage (and the ways they fight it) all the more bittersweet.

Structurally Arrow of Time is a great feat, and supported by such strong moment to moment writing that the structure never feels like a gimmick. So many moments around art and health and how we experience time and bills and work felt so recognizable, while the characters are still very specific and fully lived in. Dwyer's written a moving audio play and I'm grateful to have spent some time with these characters. Highly, highly recommend watching or listening to the audio play production of this piece!
